She was the wife of the late Paul M. Simundza, who died in 1998. They had been married for 53 years.

Born in Chicago, IL, Shirley was the daughter of the late Alvin and Florence (Bolin) Krueger. She was raised and educated in Berwyn, IL and graduated from J. Sterling Morton High School and Morton Junior College, where she met her future husband.

Shirley, and her husband, raised four children in Clarendon Hills, IL before retiring to Yarmouth Port in 1985. She was a volunteer at the VNA Thrift Store in South Yarmouth and for many years volunteered as recording secretary for the Deb’s Hill Condo Association.

A life-long, die-hard fan of the Chicago Cubs baseball team, Shirley became an avid Red Sox fan when she moved east. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, embroidery, crossword puzzles, and reading as a member of Petrina’s Book Club. She was happiest when she was spending time with her beloved family.

Shirley is survived by two sons, Gary and his wife, Barbara of Gloucester, and Scott and his wife, Barbara of North Hampton, NH; two daughters, Gayle Simundza and her husband, Tom Kirkman of North Falmouth, and Jan Starzec and her husband, Jeffrey of Park Ridge, IL; six grandchildren, Eric and Julia Simundza, Todd and Alice Kirkman, and Jack and Jeremy Starzec; one great granddaughter, Roxie Kirkman; a sister, Beverly Lampadius and her husband, Paul of The Woodlands, TX; and three nieces, Karen, Terry, and Kristin, and their families.
